Ophelia Cornet - Survival of the Nurtured, Iconography for these Times

  • MoMo Taos 133 Bent Street Taos, NM, 87571 United States (map)

My work is feminist, spiritual, and surreal. I create in response to a world that is

excessively masculine, accelerated, and materialistic. We are watching compassion,

mindfulness, and reason being decimated in real time by a broken and aggressive

system. We search for antidotes to a feeling of despair.

This body of work was started in Oaxaca after the election as a way to process and

move through the times. I was drawn to warm colors, textures suggesting the passage

of time, and evocative figures. The work lures us back to the feminine like a protective

balm.

Most importantly, these icons serve as a reminder to nurture. To nurture ourselves and

others as a form of revolution! To open to tenderness, kindness, and the feeling of

belonging to each other. To create an intimate place within ourselves! In this way, we

stand up to the noise and fear. From this place, we are strong.
