TAOS, NM — MoMo Taos presents Where Earth Meets Sky, an exhibition of new paintings by Anaïs Rumfelt exploring the charged boundary between the vastness of the natural world and its most intimate inhabitants. Through realistic animal portraits, detailed crow studies and expansive cloudscapes, Rumfelt captures nature at once monumental and deeply personal.

Inspired by New Mexico’s continually changing skies, Rumfelt treats the atmosphere as a canvas for emotion. Heavy storm clouds gather above open land; brilliant sunsets burn along distant horizons. These shifting skies mirror an interior landscape—restless, dramatic and fleeting.

Throughout the exhibition, Rumfelt draws upon the stark contrasts found in nature: the physical weight of a mountain range against the fluid architecture of clouds; the immensity of the horizon against the singular presence of an earth creature. Her subjects appear not simply as wildlife, but as quiet sentinels and storytellers— watchful figures possessing an intentional, almost knowing presence.

A crow poised beneath a storm-filled sky, a goat accompanied by a crow and a flurry of pale butterflies, or an approaching wall of weather over an open field becomes something more than an observed scene. Rooted in realism yet touched by the uncanny, Rumfelt’s paintings evoke quiet wonder, emotional tension and a subtle sense of magical realism.

Where Earth Meets Sky invites viewers to pause within that thin boundary where land, atmosphere and imagination converge and to discover the narratives held there.

An artist reception will be held onSaturday, October 10, from 4 to 6 pm at MoMo Taos. The public is invited to attend and meet the artist.
